Dassault to Debut FalconWays Route-Optimization App

Proprietary Architecture Occasions Significant Fuel Savings

Renowned French plane-maker Dassault Aviation has developed a new flight planning tool by which Falcon pilots may reduce instances of fuel-tankering by selecting the most fuel-efficient routes.

Dubbed FalconWays, the solution comprises, in part, updated global-wind data optimization and model-specific performance algorithms. FalconWays will be offered as a flight app on Dassault’s FalconSphere iPad electronic flight-bag, and is compatible with Jeppesen and Universal flight planning tools.

Painstakingly developed and evaluated over innumerable simulations and a comprehensive campaign of long-haul flights between the U.S. and Europe and across Asia, FalconWays—during actual flight operations—facilitated reductions in fuel-consumption of as much as seven-percent.

Dassault Falcon division chairman and CEO Eric Trappier stated: “Our new FalconWays flight app is part our company’s broader commitment to sustainable flying. It will help Falcon customers reach a new level of operational efficiency while reducing aviation emission levels.”

The new FalconWays application allows pilots to define optimal routes by downloading worldwide wind information and combining such with imported operational flight-plans; in-house performance tools; and vertical, lateral, and Mach number optimization data. Falcons equipped with SATCOM are capable of  updating the FalconWays database en-route on long flights, thereby further optimizing trajectories. Vertical and lateral trajectory optimization may be carried out before or during flight.

Dassault will debut FalconWays on its new Falcon 6X extra-wide-body twinjet, which is slated to enter service presently. The app will be available on the Falcon 8X in early 2024, on the 7X prior to the end of 2024, and on the Falcon 2000LXS/S by early 2025.

FalconWays is a pilot-dedicated application designed in-house by Dassault Engineering and flight operations teams, the efforts of which have yielded seven patents and given rise to the creation of a number of advanced algorithms conducive to the improvement of flight efficiency. Implemented across the Falcon fleet, the app will occasion significant fuel savings and dramatically reduce aircraft CO2 emissions.

FalconWays will be demonstrated at Dassault’s static-display at the upcoming National Business Aviation Association’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada from 17 through 19 October 2023.
