Sierra Nevada Corporation Supports STEM Education

Sponsored MIT’s Beaver Works Summer Institute

Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) was proud to sponsor MIT’s 2018 Beaver Works Summer Institute (BWSI), a four-week summer STEM program for rising high school seniors focusing on hands-on projects and courses that strengthen their understanding of fundamental concepts in emerging technologies of tomorrow.

“SNC is driven to empower the next generation through technology and innovation. BWSI fuels this mission by providing bright and ambitious students STEM/STEAM education that can transform the future,” said Eren Ozmen, SNC owner, president and chairwoman. “It is limitless what these students can achieve. We at SNC couldn’t have been more excited to be sponsor of the program.”

Beaver Works is a joint venture between the MIT School of Engineering and Lincoln Laboratory, focusing on research and education. This year's curriculum featured autonomous ground and air racing, SNC’s project of CubeSat development and more. The CubeSat project offered the students the tools to build, test and fly a miniature satellite with an imaging payload, which would be launched at the first possible opportunity to track and observe their working space system.

The program concluded its third year on August 5 with 198 students from 105 schools around the country, including students from Mexico and Canada.
