German Nudist Flight Set For July 5 Takeoff

Travel Agency Organizes 'Free Body Culture' Trip

An element of German society has always embraced nudity, or "free body culture" as its called. Germans are enthusiastic patrons of nude beaches and hotels across Europe. Now, they won't even have to wait until the end of the plane flight to take it all off.

Reuters reports one travel agency will start taking bookings Friday for a trial nudist day trip, from the eastern German town of Erfurt to the popular Baltic Sea resort of Usedom. The trip is planned for July 5, and a ticket costs 499 euros, or about $739.

The agency's managing director, Enrico Hess, acknowledged the price is steep... but blamed it on the small plane chosen for the market test. The aircraft type is not specified on the agency's website, but only 55 seats are available.

Passengers will have to remain clothed only when they board and deplane. The flight crew, for safety reasons, will remain dressed throughout the flight.

One can only imagine some of the cabin announcements... "Ladies and gentlemen, the captain has turned on the 'fasten seat belt' sign. For your safety and comfort, please be very, very careful with the buckle."

Personally, we wish them well... and we hope screeners let the passengers carry towels through security. We also hope this doesn't give the US Transportation Security Administration any ideas.
