Passengers Still On Board, One Cabin Crewmember Injured
Pilots on a Singapore Airlines A380 forgot to engage the parking brake after reaching their gate, causing the plane to roll and one member of the cabin crew to take a tumble. The passengers were still on board at the time.
The aircraft, 9V-SKR, flew a typical five-ish hour flight from Singapore Changi International Airport (SIN) to New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) on November 25. It was only after landing and taxiing to the gate that things started to get interesting.
Upon reaching the gate and coming to a stop, the pilots apparently failed to set the parking brake before releasing the toe brakes. A spokesperson for Singapore Airlines stated that “the pilot immediately applied the brakes to halt the aircraft.” Passengers were still on board the A380 and one flight attendant sustained minor bruising on their thigh, likely due to the sudden stop.
The crewmember was given medical attention before being cleared back to service. The passengers were also able to disembark the aircraft as normal.
"Once the aircraft was stationary, the pilots informed air traffic control, and ground staff safely towed the aircraft back to its designated parking bay. SIA apologises for any inconvenience caused by this incident,” the spokesperson continued.
9V-SKR is Singapore Airlines’ over 13-year-old Airbus A380 double-decker aircraft. It can seat up to 471 passengers split between first class, business class, premium economy, and economy class. It has accommodated more than 50,000 hours and 5,000 cycles in service.
Singapore Airlines operates a fleet of 12 A380s and holds the title as the first carrier to utilize the superjumbo for commercial flight.
