Houghton College Adopts Drone Training Course

Aquiline Sees Increasing Adoption of Drone Flight Classes in University Catalogs

Houghton College, a Christian New York liberal arts and science school, has joined hands with Aquiline Drones to offer its UAV pilot courses in its course curriculum.

For now, the deal is set to last 5 years, offering online, instructor-guided drone pilot training to future and current students. Aquiline courses will prepare students to take and pass the licensed drone pilot FAA exam. The company takes a slightly different tack to drone education, including AI assisted training sessions and adding an individual flight training component with hands-on flight experience. The courses that will be offered with Houghton include:

First, a basic foundational course in UAV use is "Drone Operation and UAV Aeronautical Procedures - an introduction to drones, that prepares students for the FAA Commercial Drone Pilot certification exam."

Second, students can take "Cloud Connected Drone Operations, Computing and Analytics," a course which focuses on "digital technologies that are enabling cloud-connected commercial drone operations and unmanned aerial systems provider business formation."

“Equipping students for personal and professional success demands our embrace of relevant and emerging technologies,” said Houghton College President, Dr. Wayne D. Lewis, Jr.

“Houghton prioritizes alignment between our degree programs and industry realities. We are committed to the integration of our liberal arts foundation with professional and applied learning experiences. This exciting new partnership with Aquiline Drones allows us to do just that; providing Houghton students with exceptional preparation to enter this in-demand field.”
