Joby Completes Maintenance Training For USAF Personnel

Covered Specifics Of Joby Aircraft Inspection & Maintenance 

Joby Aviation announced the completion of a training program for the U.S. Air Force (USAF) that covered the maintenance of Joby’s electric aircraft.

The program trained several USAF members including maintainers and a flight test pilot on the specifics of inspecting and maintaining the aircraft and was completed under Joby’s contract with the AFWERX Agility Prime program.

The four-week program was held at Joby’s manufacturing and flight test facilities in Marina, California, and followed the Aircraft Maintenance Manual developed by Joby relevant to the company’s work towards aircraft type certification with the FAA. The instruction included classroom lectures and discussions as well as hands-on completion of inspections and pre-flight checks on Joby’s production prototype aircraft.

Bonny Simi, President of Operations at Joby said, “We’re pleased to have successfully completed another engagement with the U.S. Air Force, providing the government with a technical overview of electric aircraft maintenance operations while we received feedback from experienced service members to further hone our in-house maintenance training program.”

The Joby electric air taxi will carry four passengers and a pilot at speeds of up to 200 mph, providing high-speed mobility with a fraction of the noise of helicopters and zero operating emissions.

Joby announced in 2023 that four USAF pilots had completed training to become the first Air Force personnel to fly an eVTOL aircraft as sole remote PIC through its full flight envelope including transition from vertical to winged flight.
