Chelton Earns TSOA For GPS-WAAS, Remote Bugs Panel

Latter Includes Dedicated Controls For Autopilot, NVG

Chelton Flight Systems, part of Cobham’s Avionics and Surveillance Division, announced Wednesday the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted a Technical Standard Order Authorization (TSOA) for its independent GPS-WAAS and Remote Bugs Panel (RBP).

"Chelton is excited to announce these TSO authorizations," Chelton General Manager Jim Shirey said. "Achieving these milestones will allow us to proceed with manufacturing and ultimately toward STC applications for both GPS-WAAS and the Remote Bugs Panel."

Chelton’s new lightweight GPS-WAAS system will meet the requirements for a primary navigation receiver for en route and approach guidance. The GPS-WAAS also features LPV approach capability.

"The new Chelton Remote BUGS panel puts control of the Chelton EFIS system within easy reach of the flight crew," Shirey said "We have collected a lot of input from pilots flying both fixed wing and helicopters and used that data to design the Remote Bugs panel. Our goal is to decrease pilot workload throughout all phases of flight. We are confident the Remote Bugs panel is an ideal solution."

Chelton’s Remote Bugs panel features dedicated controls for frequently-used functions including the autopilot, controls for selecting and setting display parameters, and a Night Vision Goggle (NVG) Mode option.

"More and more Part 25 operators want to install Chelton EFIS in their aircraft and helicopters," Shirey said. "By taking another step to being able to offer required equipment like the Remote Bugs Panel we are closer to being able to enter this important market."
