Longmont, CO City Council Wants Report On Skydiving Fatality

Jumper's Body Was Found Last Friday After Being Reported Missing

The Longmont, CO City Council has asked for a city staff report on the fatal injury of a skydiver whose body was found October 19th in a field near Vance Brand Municipal Airport.

The skydiver was 23-year-old Logan Polfuss of Simla. His girlfriend had reported him missing around 9:00 p.m. October 18th, according to the Times Call newspaper, almost eight hours after his scheduled jump. His car was found in the airport parking lot when the search began Thursday night.

Longmont councilwoman Joan Peck said she has been looking into the incident, and cited an FAA rule that makes the pilot of the aircraft responsible for the actions of the skydivers after they jump. She also cited a local ordinance that amended airport rules that requires anyone who is involved in or witnesses an accident to notify the airport manager immediately. Peck said she was concerned that the incident would be "pushed under the rug."

Polfuss was jumping with Mile-Hi Skydiving, which has been the target of years of noise complaints from a local resident.

The county council has asked for a staff report on the accident to be presented at its November 13 meeting. The council voted unanimously in favor of asking for the report.
