Extra, Extra At Airventure 2017

Gathering Planned For Pilots Of All Models Of The Aerobatic Airplane

The Extra series of aerobatic monoplanes are manufactured in Dinslaken, Germany, and in the past 30 years various models of the Extra have been introduced by Walter Extra, the chief designer and founder of Extra Aircraft.

These airplanes are now used by many of the top aerobatic competition pilots in the world as well as in the air show industry. This gathering at Oshkosh will bring together pilots and owners of the various models of this premier aerobatic airplane.

If you're an Extra pilot or owner, and would like to participate in the planned activities, there is a form to fill out on the EAA website.

Walter Extra completed his first EXTRA 230 with wood wing, four cylinder 230 HP engine and a 2-blade-prop in 1981, according to the company. In 1987 an EXTRA 260 prototype flew with a six cylinder 260 HP and 3-blade-prop, and the following year, the EXTRA 300 prototype, the first two-place EXTRA , is completed and flown by three competitors at the 1988 World Aerobatic Championship. These 300 HP aircraft have composite wings.
