Engine Failure Unites Commemorative Air Force Units From Colorado, Arizona

The Groups Worked Together To Restore The B-25 To Its Flying Glory

B-25 Maid in the Shade, took a visit to the Rocky Mountain Wing Airport, from CAF Airbase Arizona. During the trip, unfortunately one of the engines failed.

The Rocky Mountain Wing, located in Grand Junction, Colorado did everything they could to help their fellow CAF flight and ground crews while they addressed the issue.

The Rocky Mountain Wing has plenty of experience as they have been around for over a decade and had no problem stepping up to the plate.

The B-25 was diagnosed with a similar issue that the Rocky Mountain Wing’s TBM Avenger experienced, and coincidentally they share the same engine type. CAF Airbase Arizona transported a spare engine from their facility in Mesa, Arizona as it required a complete tear down of the engine.

During the down time, Maid in the Shade’s air and ground crew were hosted at the Rocky Mountain Wing’s Cub hangar, Maintenance shop, and Museum. Rocky Mountain Wing members were happy to do it, as a few years ago their team relied on Airbase Arizona when the TBM needed an engine rebuild.

After the B-25’s new engine arrived and  was outfitted with a new part, a test flight took place on July 10th. Everything checked out and the B-25 Maid in the Shade rejoined the Flying Legends of History Tour and everything went smoothly.

CAF Airbase Arizona Leader Travis Major sent the Rocky Mountain Wing a letter of Appreciation.
