Hawaiian Airlines Trustee Resigns

These Things Take Time; For Mr. Monahan, It Took Nearly a Month

The US Trustee's Office in Honolulu accepted the resignation Tuesday of John Monahan, who was appointed trustee of bankrupt Hawaiian Airlines just last month.

Monahan didn't give too many clues as to why he's leaving the post, saying only that "I have enjoyed my brief association with the people of Hawaiian Airlines and will miss the opportunity to be a part of what I'm confident will be a successful reorganization of the airline." His reasons, according to his spokesman (spokesman?), were "...personal reasons that require his full attention."

The airline went under Chapter 11 protection March 21. On June 5, former president and CEO, John Adams, resigned under a cloud of suspicion -- insider "dealings" and old-fashioned mismanagement -- charges brought by Boeing Capital Corp.

It is likely that either something cataclysmic happened in Monahan's family or financial life, or he discovered something he didn't want to touch; it is unlikely that he planned such a hasty exit, when he took the position on May 30.
