USAF Group Reviews Museum Procedures

Comparing Museum At Wright-Patterson With Civilian Counterparts

Air Force officials say a group will assess the operational policies and procedures used by the US Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (OH).

The group will report findings to both Air Force Secretary Dr. James G. Roche and Air Force Museum Director Charles D. Metcalf according to Lt. Gen. Joseph H. Wehrle Jr. The general is the Air Force assistant vice chief of staff and chairman of the standing museum advisory group.

The museum is the world’s largest and oldest military aviation museum and the national museum for the US Air Force.

The group consists of civilian experts in museum operations, collection management and exhibit development, and other professionals. They are expected to meet within the next several days.

The experts will examine the museum's policies and procedures to determine if they meet or exceed recognized professional standards of comparable museums. They will also determine whether adequate safeguards are in place to detect and deter potential irregularities.
