Emergency CASA AD: AMD Falcon 10 Series Aeroplanes

AD/AMD 10/25 Amdt 1 Wing Anti-Ice Hoses 9/2005 TX

Applicability: Dassault Aviation Falcon 10 Aircraft.

Requirement:

  1. Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM) Limitations and Placard: Revise the Limitations section of the Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM); and install a placard in the flight deck, to include the following information.

“Flights into known or forecast icing conditions are prohibited.”

The AFM revision may be done by inserting a copy of this Airworthiness Directive (AD) into the AFM. Install the placard in clear view of the pilot.

2. Inspection: (a) Perform a detailed inspection of the internal walls of the hoses for delamination, and perform any applicable corrective action as per provisions of Dassault Alert Service Bulletin (SB) F10-A312 Revision 1 dated 27 June 2005 or later EASA approved revisions. If any blister is found in the hose, replace that hose with a hose part numbered (P/N)
FAL1005D.

Submit the inspection findings to the manufacturer. The report must include the aircraft serial number, the location of the hose (inboard/outboard), the number of flight hours since hose installation, the number of cycles in icing conditions, and the manufacturing date and batch number of the hose.

(b) Insert the following instruction in the Airworthiness Limitations section of the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM). This can be achieved by inserting a copy of this AD in Chapter 5-40 of the AMM:

Note 1: EASA Airworthiness Directive EASA.A.AD.01001 dated 29 June 2005 refers.

Compliance:

  1. Within the next 10 flights with Anti-Ice system in use, after the effective date of this Directive.
  2. (a) Within the next 10 flights with Anti-Ice system in use, after the effective date of this Directive; and then repetitively every 10 flight cycles with anti ice system activated.

Note 2: With this end in view, the flight crew should record on the flight log, any time the Anti-Ice system switch is ON, in flight, (i.e. to the exclusion of the pre-flight check) to be able to determine the first time- limited inspection & the recurring ones.
2. (b) Within five days, after the effective date of this Directive. This Amendment becomes effective on 5 July 2005.

Background: There has been a reported incident of a wing anti-ice flexible hose collapse on a Falcon 10 aircraft. The hose collapsed because of the internal ply separation of the flexible hose. Due to the resulting insufficient anti-icing, ice accretion on the wing
can occur, jeopardizing the aircraft flight performance and safety.

The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive required repetitive inspections at an interval of 60 flight cycles. This amendment introduces repetitive boroscope inspection with reduced periodicity of 10 flight cycles.

The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 8 March 2005.
