USAF Veteran's Funeral Draws Hundreds Who Did Not Know Him

91 Year Old USAF Staff Sergeant Laid To Rest, And Honored By Hundreds

The community that bridges both aviation and our nation's military can be a strong and loyal one. When the word went out to a number of veteran's groups and message boards that a USAF Vet would be laid to rest without any remaining family in attendance, that community showed by the hundreds... in the middle of a snowstorm... to pay their respects and make sure that Clyde Baldwin's service and lifetime would not be forgotten.

Baldwin, a Colorado vet, served from 1950 to 1970 and saw service during the Korean and Vietnam eras. Last Friday, Baldwin's funeral saw a large crowd, mostly due to an alert from a local VFW post that requested their attendance since SSgt. Baldwin's only living relative, a sister in Oklahoma, could not make the trip.

Baldwin was reported to have been a decorated Staff Sergeant, but wasn’t married and had no children. His funeral came during serious snow falls and despite all that entailed, the crowd amassed and witnessed Baldwin’s funeral with military honors as it was conducted at Pikes Peak National Cemetery last Friday.

Veteran's group, Patriot Guard Riders' Robert Aholt told local media that, “Weather conditions the way they were with people parked all the way out to Drennan and having to actually walk into the cemetery, it’s impressive to see that much support from the community...”
