Rotax Releases New 915 iS Service Bulletin

Covers Inspection And/Or Correction Of Turbocharger Heat Shield Orientation For ROTAX Engine Type 915 i A And B Engines

Rotax has distributed a mandatory service bulletin for its Type 915 i A and B series engines. The bulletin indicates that internal quality checks have shown that in isolated cases, the turbocharger wastegate actuator heat shield has been positioned and installed incorrectly. This may lead to overheating of the wastegate actuator assembly which has an influence on turbocharger operation.

It has been determined during internal quality checks that a limited range of engines could potentially have had their turbocharger wastegate actuator heat shield wrongly positioned. This may lead to a hazardous condition.

If your aircraft is equipped with a 915 i (Fuel Injected Series) engine and its serial number and/or the turbocharger assembly serial number is within the scope specified in this document, then the turbocharger wastegate heat shield must be inspected (and potentially repositioned). NOTE: It is important to check both the engine S/N and the turbocharger assembly S/N against this SB.

If your engine serial number and/or turbocharger assembly serial number falls within the specified ranges, then the procedures outlined within the Certified SB must be followed. (The actual inspection procedure is detailed in Section 3.1 of the Certified SB)

If the heat shield is correctly positioned then no further action is required for this Service Bulletin (Non repetitive inspection).
