Piper Navajo Down Off The Coast Of Long Island

Well-Known Builder Among Those Feared Fatally Injured

A Piper PA-31 Navajo went down Saturday off the coast of Long Island Saturday, resulting in the apparent fatal injury of all aboard.

Among them was East Hampton builder Ben Krupinski, 70, who was known as the "Builder to the Stars". He, his wife Bonnie and their grandson Will Maerov were aboard the airplane, which was being flown by 47-year-old pilot Jon Dollard.

The New York Post reports that the plane went down about a mile off shore near Indian Wells Beach at about 1450 Saturday, according to local officials. A local pilot told the paper that there were "nasty" thunderstorms with strong downdrafts in the area where the plane went down.

The Krupinskis had owned the plane since at least the 1980s, according to the report.

Two of the bodies had been recovered on Saturday night. The couple was well known for their philanthropic efforts in the community.
