Man Rushes Past Security In Toronto, Boards Jazz Flight

Security Eventually Catches Up After Pilot Confronts Him

Police in Toronto tell the CanWest News Service a 20-year-old man who ran past security at Pearson International faces multiple criminal charges, but may suffer from mental illness.

Peel Regional Police say the man ran past a screening checkpoint in terminal 1 "at a full gallop" about 9:00 am Friday morning, and made his way onto an Air Canada Jazz regional jet.

After a verbal confrontation with the pilot, he then reportedly ran back toward pursuing security officers and was arrested.

Police said it wasn't clear whether the man had a ticket for any flight. Spokesman Wayne Patterson stressed this was an isolated incident, noting "anyone who goes through the airport knows there is a process."

Officials are not sure if the man -- who faces a number of criminal charges, including criminal mischief -- had a ticket for any flight. The man may have a mental health issue.
