USAF Forces Suspicious Plane To Land

Flying Too Close To Bush Ranch In Texas

Imagine their surprise.

A father and son flying aboard a Piper Arrow were intercepted and forced to land in San Marcos (TX) Friday after they flew too close to President Bush's ranch in Crawford.

"Secret Service came out, interviewed the pilot and passenger. They'll continue their investigation. The FAA has been notified. They will have an investigation as to the encroachment on the airspace," said San Marcos Police Chief Howard Williams. The names of the two were not released, although the aircraft was registered to a company based in the Dallas suburb of Carrollton.

San Marcos police say the F-16s working the intercept had to fire several flares to get the attention of the Arrow pilot.

The pilot and son were questioned well into the evening by Secret Service agents. Their aircraft and baggage was searched, but officials say nothing suspicious was found. Both said San Marcos was their final destination.
