Sporty's Kicks Off 'IFR Month'

Ride Along with Spencer Suderman for 4 Weeks of IFR Prep & Review

Sporty's is kicking off its IFR Month with a series of special events to get pilots comfy in the clouds.

Throughout the month of February, Sporty’s will be embarking on a 4-week focus on the challenges and rewards of instrument flying. The month will see the release of a new YouTube series, interactive webinars, articles, live stream events, and contests. The goal is to encourage more private pilots to earn their instrument rating, get current, stay current, and enjoy more utility from their pilot certificate. Of course, a few special savings on gear will be issued throughout February, on instrument-related pilot gear.

“Instrument flying has always been important to Sporty’s, beginning with Founder Hal Shevers and his innovative three-day ground school in the early 1960s,” said Sporty’s President John Zimmerman. “We’re excited to launch IFR Month as a way of building on that heritage and encouraging pilots to explore the fascinating world of instrument flight.”

For their upcoming series, Sporty’s partnered with record-setting airshow pilot and instrument flight instructor Spencer Suderman. The series, “IFR Insights,” will be available free on YouTube, where Suderman will show how to use modern tools, EFBs, and datalink weather to make IFR flying safer and easier. The series boasts the typical production value offered throughout Sporty's courses, with multiple camera angles and real-world ATC audio providing a 1st-class experience.

“We hope pilots of all experience levels will get something out of IFR Month,” said Zimmerman. “Whether it’s tackling the instrument written test, firing up a simulator to get current, or just flying a more precise LPV approach, there’s always something to learn about instrument flying.”
