But... The Deadline Approaches
Here's an impressive set of
numbers... Women in Aviation, International's (WAI) annual
scholarship opportunities now total $355,000 for 2008, but to
qualify, interested individuals must apply by December 1, 2007.
This year's scholarships range in value from a $500 academic
scholarship up through a typerating valued at $35,000.
"We have 28 different companies, organizations and individuals
making this scholarship money available to our members," said WAI
President Dr. Peggy Chabrian. "In fact, we even have a number of
past scholarship winners who want to provide new opportunities for
others by funding scholarships of their own."
In order to apply for any of the 46 scholarships offered this year,
an individual must be an active member of Women in Aviation.
(Membership is open to both women and men.) All scholarships are
not academic scholarships, but rather are available for flight
training, maintenance training, and engineering, as well as for WAI
members who want to change careers mid-life, for example.
"By the time we announce the scholarship recipients at our 2008
Conference, there may even be more scholarships. It's not unusual
for a new sponsor to offer a scholarship at the last minute or to
offer scholarships to two individuals since it is too difficult to
select just one winner." added Dr. Chabrian (pictured below). This
year's WAI Conference is scheduled for March 13-15, 2008, at the
Town and Country Resort and Convention Center in San Diego.
A complete description of each scholarship along with complete
instructions, useful tips to increase your chances of winning as
well as the application form are available on line. Women in
Aviation, International is a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization
dedicated to providing networking, mentoring and scholarship
opportunities for women and men who are striving for challenging
and fulfilling careers in the aviation and aerospace
industries.
