Airborne 08.12.19: Pipistrel Sets Record, Avionics Theft, Skydive Record

Also: AVFUEL Adds Two, HSC-25 Provides MEDEVAC, Enforcement For Service Animals, Gone West: ‘Hank’ Henry

As previously noted in Aero-News and Airborne coverage, Oshkosh 2019 was a record setter for EAA and the sport aviation community.

Now, we’ve found that others are pleased to report a similar effect on their own operations. Well-known sport aviation powerhouse, Pipistrel Aircraft is now reporting record sales activity from this year’s event. Single unit, onsite, sales now number at 11 airframes from Oshkosh alone, and some 30 additional potential orders are under negotiation. When accompanied by recent fleet announcements about a recent 50 aircraft order from US Aeroclub, it's obvious that Pipistrel is having a heck of a year. At least nine airplanes at Nashua, NH Airport (KASH) were damaged by thieves who took tens of thousands of dollars of electronic equipment, recently. The thefts were discovered early Saturday. There are about 200 airplanes based at the airport in hangars and tied down on the tarmac. Airport manager Chris Lynch said that "everyone feels extremely violated." Officials said the thieves took GPS and communications equipment from the airplanes. An international team of 84 elite skydivers are claiming a new world record for largest formation while flying in an upright position, which they set on Friday, July 26. The team traveled from around the globe for the record event at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa, Illinois, aiming to surpass the previous record of 72 skydivers set in Arizona in April 2015. After leaping from five aircraft flying in formation 18,000 feet above the ground, the group built the formation flying in a position that looks like sitting in a chair—“upright” in skydiving lingo. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
