Aero-TV At Oshkosh 2009: The Polar Pumpkin - Art Mortvedt at AirVenture

Polar Pumpkin Premieres at Oshkosh

Aero-TV sat down with Art Mortvedt, the current pilot and owner of the Polar Pumpkin, to discuss his exciting plans to land the aircraft at both Poles.

Hoping to share his experiences with AirVenture 2009 visitors, Mortvedt plans to give several exciting lectures about the applicability, expediency, and economy of single-engine aircraft in remote locations, including his famed polar expeditions.

The Polar Pumpkin landed at the South Pole on November 22, 1999, and is expected to arrive at the North Pole in April of 2010.

The aircraft, equipped with state-of-the-art lasers, will fly to the Arctic as part of the Laser Induced Fluorescent Emission (L.I.F.E.) Expedition, the first airborne attempt to identify microbes in the Earth's cryosphere.
