Airborne 03.04.19: SAP Engine Grounding, New PAC45A, STC Group AML Update

Also: Chinese Airline Sues Passenger, Onboard Systems, Duncan Live STC Database, ALPA Applauds

In a far-reaching decision that affects over 100 engines, Superior Air Parts has confirmed that they are implementing a mandatory grounding/buy-back of all their XP-382 and XP-400 experimental aircraft engines.

Bill Ross, A&P I/A and Superior Air Parts' VP Product Support explained that the company's decision to take all of the XP-382 and XP-400 engines out of the market comes after a lengthy evaluation and testing process. PS Engineering has introduced the latest variant of the PAC45, an FAA TSO’d special mission audio controller with MultiTalker, a 3-Dimensional sound placement system to help pilots differentiate the various radios they monitor simultaneously. The result is the PAC45A -- which accommodates up to 4 individual control heads, interfaces to 8 Com radios and 8 switched receiver inputs, has flightmate with 9 customizable audio alerts, and incorporates two built-in speaker amplifiers, all with a single interface HUB. It also has dual CVR outputs. The STC Group has received an STC for the installation kit for the non-TSO’d Trio Pro Pilot digital autopilot into Cessna 190, 195, LC-126A and LC-126B. The Cessna LC-126C prototype airframe is in the Oxnard, CA facility and the project should be completed over the next month. The Trio Pro Pilot autopilot reportedly brings a robust set of features to the legacy aircraft fleet at an affordable price. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
