Updated: Iraq Claims it Shot Another Predator

Denial From US

Iraq claimed, through foreign press outlets, to have shot down a Predator UAV, as it crossed into Iraqi airspace in the Southern No-Fly Zone, from a launch, presumably, in Kuwait.

The Iraqi Air Defence Command issued a statement that said, in part, "Our air defenses intercepted and shot down an unmanned U.S. spy plane as it violated our airspace coming from Kuwait."

The US has denied Iraq's claims and photos of the so-called wreckage certainly tend to confirm the US report. In the past, the US has downplayed the importance of such losses. The last Predator confirmed lost over Iraq went down on December 23.

Update: The Pentagon denied Iraq's claim. "It's bogus," said a Pentagon spokesman. "We haven't lost a Predator."
