Airborne 06.13.22: New FAA Boss?, E Hampton Scandal, B-29 Doc at OSH22

Also: Electra Acquires Airflow, Mars Helicopter AOG, AirDialog, Aviation Comm Simulator

Political theater? The Biden Administration may name Democrat standby and aviation industry neophyte Phil Washington its nominee to run the FAA.

Originally from the Altgeld Gardens housing projects on Chicago’s South Side and conspicuously light on aviation experience, Washington exemplifies the Administration’s practice of predicating critical appointments on standards other than experience and ability. In yet another shortsighted move, East Hampton, NY town officials have begun the process of permanently closing the East Hampton Airport after litigation prevented them from converting the airport to a private-use facility. The town had formerly planned to close the airport on May 17 and reopen it 33 hours later, thereby facilitating the facility’s transition from the public-use East Hampton Airport (HTO) to the private, East Hampton Town Airport (JPX). B-29 Doc is returning to EAA AirVenture in 2022 and will offer flight experiences along with ground and cockpit tours. Doc will also be a featured performer in the air show throughout the week. B-29 Doc Flight Experience rides will be available in Appleton, WI, July 27 and 28. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
