Skydiver Critically Injured In Florida Accident

Missed His Landing Zone And Impacted Parked Cars At DeLand Airport

A 40-year-old skydiver missed his landing zone and was critically injured when he impacted parked cars at Skydive DeLand in central Florida last Saturday.

The McClatchy News Service reports that, according to authorities, the skydiver, DeLand, FL resident Luis Lopez Mendez impacted a Honda Civic and a Honda sport utility vehicle before landing on the ground. He was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, FL, where he was treated for a compound fracture to his ankle and a fractured femur.

But he was later rushed into surgery and listed in critical condition.

Local police collected the parachute used by Mendez, as well as a camera as evidence in the incident.
