Beating the Odds: Two Survive Open-Water Alaska Crash

Four Others Still Missing

They swam a mile in the frigid Alaskan waters near Glacier Bay, after the Cessna 401, out of fuel and trying desperately to reach the small town of Gustavus (AK), had radioed that it was going to try to make it in. The twin went down in the water about 9:30 Sunday night.

The flight had left Port Angeles (WA) with six aboard. The two survivors, both men, said that they were sure two of their companions had made it out of the airplane; the four others, who were not with the two men when the pair was discovered on an island about 8AM Monday, have not been found.

All identities are being withheld until this story unfolds.
