Aero-TV: Sun ‘n Fun Fly-In Readies for 50th Anniversary

1974-2024

Sun ’n Fun Aerospace Expo (stylized SUN 'n FUN) is a Lakeland, Florida-based nonprofit dedicated to the promotion of aviation education. The organization is best known for its annual fly-in—which pilots and aviation aficionados broadly consider the opening event of the yearly air-show season and early spring’s premier aviation and aerospace hootenanny.

2024 will mark the 50th anniversary of the SUN ‘n FUN fly in. The 09 through 14 April event will strive to honor the pioneers and volunteers by whose industry and expertise the organization has grown from a small local gathering of pilots and aircraft owners to one of the world’s preeminent celebrations of all things aeronautical.

SUN ‘n FUN president and CEO Gene Conrad confided the fly-in’s 50th anniversary iteration will see the entirety of the event’s historic grand-champion and reserve grand-champion aircraft award winners invited back to dazzle as they did in their respective heydays. Additionally, the multi-day happening will see what Mr. Conrad referred to as a “huge warbird presence.”

By way of aerial displays, SUN ‘n FUN 2024 will feature air-show favorites the likes of the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team, Rob Holland, Patty Wagstaff, Kyle Fowler, and Nathan Hammond, as well as famed military spectacles such as the U.S. Air Force’s F-35A Demo Team, the United States Marine Corps’ F-35B Demo Team, and the U.S. Navy’s famed Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron.

As the lead-in to the 2024 aviation year, SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo will present, in partnership with Aero-News Network, the SUN ‘n FUN Innovation Preview, which promises to set the definitive standard for exciting, accurate, and critical news and information germane to new products and services across the breadth of the aviation industry’s many sectors.

As 2023 slips, day-by-day, into autumn’s moody and evanescent embrace, solace may be taken in the knowledge that spring—fecund, vibrant, and filled with the sights and sounds of thousands of gleaming machines descending upon Lakeland, Florida—waits with graceful patience across the austere expanse of the coming winter.

Aero-TV is a production of the Internationally syndicated Aero-News Network. Seen worldwide by hundreds of thousands of aviators and aviation adherents, ANN's Aero-TV has produced over 5000 aviation and feature programs, including nearly 2000 episodes of our daily aviation news program, AIRBORNE UNLIMITED, currently hosted by Holland Lee. Now in its third decade of operation, parent company Aero-News Network, has the most aggressive and intensive editorial profile of any aviation news organization and has published nearly a half-million news and feature stories since its inception -- having pioneered the online 24/7 aviation new-media model that so many have emulated.
