Importance Of Enhanced Regional Cooperation Underscored During IAC Visit

Reaffirmed Agency's Commitment To Working Together On Implementation Of Standards

Recognizing the work of the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) in promoting the implementation of aviation standards and policies in Eastern European States, the President of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, reaffirmed the UN aviation agency’s commitment to further cooperation and collaboration with this important regional body and its Member States in furtherance of the current No Country left Behind initiative of ICAO.

“I commend the IAC for the progress it has made with respect to SARP implementation in its region, and towards meeting the objectives outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding between our two Organizations,” President Aliu expressed to IAC Chairperson, Dr. Tatiana Anodina. “I am encouraged by the level of engagement demonstrated by IAC, particularly with the implementation of the joint ICAO/IAC aviation safety development project.  We must expand this synergy to all areas of collaboration so that IAC States reap the full benefits of a safe, secure and sustainable air transport system.”

ICAO/IAC discussions earlier this month focused on the status of their cooperative agreement and on  IAC’s progress relating to the major outcomes and initiatives endorsed by ICAO’s High-Level Safety Conference this past February.  During their meeting, the head of the regional organization presented President Aliu with the IAC Award, expressing her deep gratitude for his contribution to the development of civil aviation throughout his career, and for ICAO’s continued strong support of IAC activities.

Dr. Anodina is also noteworthy as the recipient of the 31st Edward Warner Award, which she received  for her eminent contributions, as scientist and researcher, to the development of national, regional and global air navigation aids.
