Sad... Alliance for Aviation Across America Announces Director's Passing

Selena Shilad Mourned for Dedication in Aviation

The Alliance for Aviation Across America regretfully announced the passing of their long-serving executive director Selena Shilad.

Shilad had "served the Alliance with distinction since its inception in 2007, and ascended to the role of executive director within a year," said the Alliance release. Her passing was a shock to many in the industry given her age, only 45-years-old. Reportedly, a "brief illness" was the ultimate and surprising cause.

Shilad built a wide ranging coalition of industry partners and friends, bringing together more than 7,000 members across a variety of stakeholders in all areas touching on aviation, however tangentially. Chambers of commerce, politicians, airport operators, agricultural heads, and charitable organizations were all brought into the fold thanks to Shilad's tireless work.

“Selena will be remembered for her unwavering commitment in her role as a tireless, passionate, resourceful and effective coalition builder and aviation advocate, whose generosity enriched the lives of those of us fortunate enough to know her," said chair Ed Bolen. "At this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with her beloved daughter, Amaya, her parents, Shafi and Karen, and her brother, Justin.”
