Archer Aviation Reaches 400 Test Flights In Eight Months

2024 Goal Attained Ahead Of Schedule

Archer Aviation, developer of electric air taxi aircraft, announced it exceeded its goal of 400 test flights for the year by completing 402 flights in just eight months, approximately four months ahead of schedule.

The company has been accelerating its flight test operations prior to conducting for-credit flight testing in conjunction with the FAA. Each test flight yields valuable data used for evaluation and refinement of aircraft performance, vibrations, loads, and handling characteristics.

In recent flights, Archer’s flight test team has concentrated on five areas:

  • Transition Flights: longer-distance and higher speed transitions for endurance and safety
  • High-Rate Operations: increasing number of per-day flights simulating anticipated commercial operations
  • Advancing Landing Profiles: performing hover landings in various wind conditions and rates of descent
  • Enhancing Acoustic Measurement: conducting hovers with various microphone arrays
  • Optimizing Control Laws: regressing through a series of optimizations of control laws to extend Midnight’s endurance

Adam Goldstein, Archer CEO and Founder said, “When we first set our goal for 400 flights this year it was viewed as aggressive, but here we are in August already knocking it out. I’m proud of the Archer flight test team and the supporting groups that made it happen.”

Archer achieved a significant milestone earlier this year when it received FAA certification in June to begin operations as a commercial airline.
