Top Gun Sequel And Mission Impossible 7 Faces COVID Related Delays

Release Dates Pushed Back Until 2022

Paramount has revealed the delay of its Tom Cruise flicks “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Mission: Impossible 7” (which never fails to feature some outstanding aviation-oriented action) due to the surge of the delta variant of COVID-19.

The release dates have been updated to May 27, 2022 for “Top Gun: Maverick” instead of November 19, 2021 and “Mission: Impossible 7” will now be shown on September 30, 2022 instead of May 27, 2022.

Movie theaters have been hard hit during the pandemic, and the “Top Gun” sequel and “Mission: Impossible 7” have been delayed several times over the past year and a half as movie theater attendance has not returned to pre-pandemic levels.

When the films do make it to the big screen, we will be ready.

“Top Gun: Maverick” adapts to the times by focusing on the drone-era of warfare. Pre-pandemic, Cruise surprised audiences at the San Diego Comic Con to talk about the film.

“Everything you see in this film is for real,” Cruise told the audience. “We’re working with the Navy, all of the flying you see in this picture is real, I really wanted to give you all an experience of what it is to be inside that aircraft.

“It’s a love letter to aviation.”

While this marks yet another delay for the 7th in the “Mission Impossible” film series, it won't be the last as there is an 8th Mission Impossible that was planned for a November 2022 release, which now will be pushed back to 2023 to accommodate the release of the 7th. The films will no longer be filmed back to back.
