B-29 Doc History Restored Tour Lands In Lawton

Doc’s Friends Keep History Alive For Future Generations

The B-29 “Doc” History Restored Tour will be making a visit to the Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport (KLAW) in Oklahoma from November 15-17, 2024, for a weekend stop.

B-29 Superfortress Doc will arrive on Thursday November 14 and will be available for ground tours beginning November 15. Similar to the other 25 stops in the historic aircraft’s tour this year, visitors will be able climb up into the aircraft to tour the interior, crew compartments, and cockpit as well as book Flight Experience rides on Saturday and Sunday November 16 and 17.

1,644 B-29 Superfortresses like Doc were built during World War II in Wichita, Kansas, at the Boeing Company’s plant. Doc rolled off the assembly line 80 years ago in 1944. It is one of only two remaining B-29s along with Fifi that are airworthy and flying today.

Josh Wells, B-29 Doc Executive Director explained, “Lawton and Fort Sill have a rich history of Army aviation. The B-29 Doc History Restored Tour provides a unique opportunity for people to get up close and personal with World War II history.

“Showcasing the 1940s-built technology of the B-29 Superfortress that helped deliver victory for the Allied Forces in the Pacific, while preserving the stories and legacies of the Greatest Generation and honoring the men and women who continue to train and serve to protect freedom is our mission.”
