Contaminated Fuel Found At Tel Aviv Ben-Gurion Airport

Most Departing Flights Grounded

Departures from Tel Aviv's Ben-Gurion International Airport largely ground to a halt Thursday after a routine check found fuel supplies had been contaminated, according to an airport spokesperson.

Reuters reports that only flights which had landed at Tel Aviv with enough fuel to reach their next destination were being allowed to take off. Airport spokesperson Adar Avisar said it was not yet known how the fuel became contaminated, or what the contaminant was. He did say that no planes in the air had been ordered to land due to the situation.

Flights to Ben-Gurion were being diverted to Cyprus for fuel, according to Israeli media.
