uAvionix Introduces AV-Mag Precision External Magnetometer

AV-30 Compatible Device Supplements Aircraft Heading Data

uAvionix, the Bigfork, MT / Leesburg, VA, based engineering outfit specializing in avionics, surveillance, airport services, UAS systems, and semiconductors, has introduced its AV-Mag, a high precision 3-axis external magnetometer compatible with the company’s AV-30 panel display.

When paired with an AV-30, AV-Mag provides consistent and accurate magnetic heading information, wind speed and direction data, and improved accuracy of autopilot navigation functions. Rather than manually synching their aircraft’s heading indicator and magnetic compass, pilots utilizing AV-Mag have the option to allow the AV-30 unit to utilize magnetic compass data from AV-Mag. Conversely, pilots wishing to use the AV-30 as a traditional, user-adjusted DG can override the measured magnetic heading and set a specific heading for aerobatic maneuvers or other practice procedures.

The AV-Mag unit must be mounted away from ferrous metals or magnetic interference; uAvionix suggests installation in the tail or either wing of the recipient aircraft. Calibration and enablement of the device is accomplished via the AV-30 user interface.

AV-Mag units for experimental aircraft are available for immediate shipping from uAvionix.com. The AV-Mag unit for certified aircraft is currently pending STC/PMA certification and is expected to begin shipping Spring 2023.

uAvionix’s AV-30 is a three-inch panel display installable as either a primary AI or heading indicator. The device provides pilots flight-pertinent information beyond the capabilities of single-function, AI/HI units. In addition to its primary function, the AV-30 includes a probe-less angle of attack (AOA) indicator; baro-corrected altitude; indicated / vertical / true airspeed readouts; non-slaved and aided heading indication; bus voltage; G load; and GPS navigational data.

The AV-30 was STC certified in September 2020, and EASA approved in 2021.

Additional information and full feature lists for both the AV-Mag and the  AV-30 are available at: uAvionix.com/AV-30.
