Florida Midair Claims One Ag Pilot's Life

(Although this was technically a runway accident, it is classed as a 'midair.')

One airplane was landing, and one was taking off. Both planes were Air Tractor AT-502s -- one was 540-powered, while the plane that was landing had P&W turbine power. Reports said one was headed west; the other, east. Both planes were consumed by fire; and only one pilot walked away.

Luis Luis, 64, of Miami, was killed. The other pilot, Larry Pegg, 50, of Royal Palm Beach, was not injured and refused medical treatment, according to police.

There is speculation that the early morning sun (the accident occured just after 7:30AM, and just after the change to Daylight Saving Time) may have contributed to this accident, between these two experienced pilots.
