Joby Gains Part 145 Maintenance Certificate from FAA

'1st eVTOL Developer' To Get Distinction Plans for Future

Joby Aviation says its new Part 145 Maintenance Certificate is a first for the industry, laying the foundation for its own future Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul Services one day.

Of course, they will have to actually produce a commercial, type-certificated aircraft, but in the meantime they have a handsome little wall hanger along with the rest of their licenses and certificates.

Bonny Simi, President of Operations, said the addition is just "another foundational piece of Joby’s vertically-integrated strategy, including aircraft development, manufacturing, charging systems, commercial flight operations, and now maintenance operations, as we prepare to bring our revolutionary eVTOL aircraft to market.”

With the Part 145 approval, Joby plans to begin cutting its teeth on "select airframe, radio, and instrument repairs on traditional aircraft", getting personnel ready and active on airworthy aircraft designs of yesterday and today. As they go, they plan to grow their MRO services and build out a paid on-the-job training to foster their own aircraft technicians in-house.

“Receiving our Part 145 certificate from the FAA is an important step towards developing the needed maintenance, repair and overhaul services to support Joby’s commercial flight operations, as well as establishing career pipelines for people who want to become eVTOL aircraft technicians.”
