Nel Stubbs to Receive NBAA’s 2023 Jack Doswell Award

Conklin & de Decker Vice-President Honored

The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) will award its John P. “Jack” Doswell Award to Nel Stubbs, vice-president of Chicago aviation consultancy Conklin & de Decker and a preeminent aviation authority by dint of whose guidance a multitude global companies and entrepreneurs have optimized their respective business aircraft operations.

The association will present Ms. Stubbs the award during the NBAA’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada from 17 through 19 October 2023.

NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen remarked: “Nel’s unequaled ability to analyze and articulate critical considerations for optimizing business aircraft use has been essential to success for organizations of all types and sizes. We are pleased to present her with our Doswell Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions and service to the business aviation community.”

A foremost strategist in aviation tax-planning and audits, cost and financial analysis, budgeting, and aircraft ownership and operating structures, Stubbs joined Conklin & de Decker in 1999, becoming an owner in 2000. She remained with the company following its April 2018 acquisition by aviation industry maintenance support and financial services provider Jet Support Services, Inc. (JSSI).

Prior to her current role, Stubbs was a longtime NBAA employee, joining the Association in 1987 and rising to the station of senior manager, tax issues—a capacity in which she helped develop the Association’s tax program, to include the NBAA’s State Tax Report, which remains an industry standard. Stubbs was also pivotal in the formation of the NBAA Tax Committee, on which she served as initial staff liaison.

Presently, Ms. Stubbs serves on the National Air Transportation Association’s (NATA’s) Air Charter Committee, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Business Industry Advisory Board, and the NBAA Tax Committee.

Previously, Stubbs served on the NBAA Advisory Board, the Helicopter Association International’s (HAI’s) Finance and Leasing Committee, and on boards of directors for the National Aircraft Finance Association (NAFA) and the Arizona Business Aviation Association (AZBAA). Additionally, Stubbs is a popular speaker at aviation industry seminars and forums.

Created in 1987 to commemorate the life and work of John P. “Jack” Doswell, a steadfast aerospace industry advocate and business aviation pioneer, the NBAA’s Doswell Award honors individuals determined to have maintained high standards for lifelong individual achievement on behalf and in support of the aims, goals and objectives of business aviation.

Founded in 1947 for purpose of fostering an environment conducive to business aviation’s success both in the United States and around the world, the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) is a Washington D.C.-based non-profit organization representing upwards of ten-thousand company and individual members.
