MiG With No Brakes

ANN News-Spy Mike writes, "I was flying into MLU (Monroe, Louisiana) [Monday] afternoon and overheard a Mig 15 talking to the tower. He stated that he had a problem with his braking system, and that he would probably need assistance, at least to be towed off of the runway.

"We landed, and a few minutes later, we watched him land. He landed, and although slowed somewhat, could not stop. He calmly broadcasted that he was going to go off the end of the runway, and the tower 'rolled' the trucks. As the aircraft stopped, the pilot (again, calmly) announced that he was fine, the engine was shut down, and that he was going to get out of the aircraft to meet the fire crews.

"I thought 'It'd be cool to meet someone who flies a MiG around...  But he's probably not in a very good mood right now!'

"I departed from the airport about 10 minutes later, and took a few blurry digital photos (fly with left hand, shoot pictures with right while on climbout on an overcast day with a little turbulence....)

"I didn't get the number of the plane, but it was definately a MiG, with the Red Stars and everything."

Thanks, Mike! Great pix, considering!

Here's a bit more info:

This MiG-15 is the same one that was flying wing for Jimmy Rossi on November 4, when Rossi's engine failure cost him his life, in the Dominican Republic.

He and Tobe Gooden were very good friends; and Rossi was reportedly the former owner of the MiG.

The photo was taken October 31, 2002, by Juan Carlos Porcella (far left). Gooden and Rossi are second and third from the right, respectively.

Gooden is a long-time airshow performer, in this MiG, as well as in his MiG-17.
