Flight Quarantined In Vegas After 11 Onboard Fall Ill

Eleven Passengers, Crewmembers Suffered Nausea

Part of McCarren International Airport in Las Vegas was shut down for several hours on Saturday night after the arrival of United Airlines Flight 1491 from Denver with 11 sick people aboard, including four flight attendants.

Passengers and crew members alike suffered from weakness and nausea.

Airport workers and health officials checked passengers, crew members, and the cabin and cargo areas for signs of hazardous materials.

For a time, no one was sure exactly what made everyone aboard the Airbus 320 ill.

One of the passengers, Don Yarbrough, told KUSA Television in Denver that it may have been a cleaning solution containing ammonia used when the plane arrived in Denver from Cancun, before heading to Las Vegas.

United spokeswoman Robin Urbanski said victims felt weak and nauseous but she had no other details.

After being searched twice for any suspect materials onboard, the aircraft was eventually cleared for service and reached its next destination -- San Francisco -- with no further incident.
