Avid Magnum Down Near Mt. Ranier

Pilot Killed

A homebuilt Avid Magnum (file photo, right) crashed near the Buck Creek campgrounds at Mt. Ranier National Park (WA), killing the sole occupant on board Saturday.

A Pierce County Sheriff's deputy would only say that the pilot of the single-engine aircraft was a 58-year old man from King County (WA).  A check of the tail number shows the Magnum was owned by John A. Harper of Seatac (WA), not far from Seattle's international airport. FAA records shows the aircraft received its airworthiness certificate in 2002.

The Pierce County (WA) Sheriff's Department and the FAA are investigating the incident. There's no information yet on what forced the aircraft down at the campground.
