NTSB Prelim: Boeing B75

'Unable To Correct The Movement, And The Lower Left Wing Struck The Ground'

Location: Chino, CA Accident Number: WPR20LA226
Date & Time: 07/05/2020, 1124 PDT Registration: N61445
Aircraft: BOEING B75 Injuries: 2 None
Flight Conducted Under: Part 91: General Aviation - Personal

On July 5, 2020, about 1124 Pacific daylight time, a Boeing B75, N61445, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Chino, California. The pilot and passenger were not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.

The pilot reported that during a landing roll on runway 26R in a tailwheel equipped airplane, at a groundspeed of about 25 miles per hour, the left wings "dipped" and he applied control inputs to counteract. The pilot stated that despite his control inputs along with a momentary application of power, he was unable to correct the movement, and the lower left wing struck the ground. Shortly after, the airplane veered sharply to the right and exited the runway.

Subsequently, the left main landing gear collapsed, and the airplane came to rest upright.

Postaccident examination of the airplane by a Federal Aviation Administration inspector revealed that the fuselage was structurally damaged. The wreckage was recovered for further examination.
