The Green Flight Project Announces Leadership Appointments

Darrel Watson, Carl Lawrence Tapped For Top Posts

Bye Energy has named Darrel Watson Program Manager of The Green Flight Project, and Carl Lawrence as Project Engineer. The project is a collaborative effort between Bye Energy and various industry partners to enhance the development of an electric and electric-hybrid propulsion system (EHPS) for commercial application. The objective of the project is to design and integrate a proof of concept EHPS into a full-scale general aviation airplane. Watson will lead the project team, while Lawrence has responsibility for all technical aspects of the program.

Charlie Johnson, COO of Bye Energy, thanked both individuals for their leadership and commitment to the project, which launched in late February. "Darrel is one of the premier quality and compliance experts in the aerospace industry and is uniquely qualified to manage this revolutionary project," he said. "Carl is truly a pioneer in bringing successful energy efficient transportation technologies to the commercial marketplace, and we are fortunate to have him on The Green Flight Project team."

Watson served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer after earning his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at California State Polytechnic University.  He then joined Texas Instruments as a Quality Assurance Engineer.  Later he worked in program management roles as well as numerous quality and reliability assurance positions before transferring to Raytheon Aircraft Corporation to serve as Director of Quality Engineering. After moving to Colorado he joined Adam Aircraft Industries as Vice President of Quality Assurance and Compliance Management.

Lawrence is former CEO of Eetrex Incoroporated, a Boulder-based developer and manufacturer of vehicle battery systems and chargers, battery management systems and the Inverger. He was founder of Columbine Bus, which designed and delivered the nation's first production hybrid-electric shuttle buses in 1995 to the Regional Transportation District in Denver. Lawrence has a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Colorado and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
