Webinars Planned For FAA's UAS Test Site Request for Comments

Online Sessions Part Of Broader Strategy To Gather Input Into The Issue

The FAA is hosting two identical webinars on UAS Test Sites. To accommodate participants in all time zones, the first webinar is on April 10, 2012 from 1000-1200 EDT, and the second will be held on April 11, 2012 from 1400-1600 EDT.

The FAA intends to identify six test ranges/sites to integrate unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) into the National Airspace System (NAS). This pilot project is in direct response to a Congressional mandate. The FAA believes that designation of such UAS test sites will assist in the effort to safely and efficiently integrate UAS into the NAS and solicits feedback on this issue. This feedback will be utilized to help develop UAS test site requirements, designation standards, and oversight activity.

The webinars were announced in Federal Register /Vol. 77, No. 47 / Friday, March 9, 2012 / Proposed Rules 14319. They will include the following information:

  • Opening Remarks
  • Background on the FAA Modernization & Reform Act of 2012 and the Request for Comment
  • Question and Answer Session

The FAA says their capacity for the webinars is limited, and they recommend pre-registraion. Those who register in advance will receive a confirmation email at the address provided during registration.
