WAHF Announces 2006 Scholarship Recipients

Aero-News has learned the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame recently awarded David Linton and Luke Van Lanen a total of $1500 in scholarship monies to continue their aviation educations.

David Linton of Elkhorn will receive the $1000 Carl Guell Memorial Scholarship. Linton is pursuing an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic degree from Blackhawk Technical College, Janesville, Wisconsin. He is moving to aviation after a 30-year career in computer technology. Linton is an instrument rated pilot and active in his school and community.

Luke Van Lanen, from Madison, WI will receive the $500 Theissen Field Scholarship. Van Lanen is also a Blackhawk Technical College student in the Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic program. He graduated from St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, Minnesota, as a multi-engine commercial, instrument rated pilot. After graduating, he immediately enrolled in the mechanic program to “open up a wide range of additional opportunities”.

The Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame will award the scholarships at its annual investiture ceremony and banquet on Saturday, October 14, 2006, at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Tickets for the event are available.

The mission statement of the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame is to collect and preserve the history of aviation in Wisconsin, recognize those who made that history, inform others of it, and promote aviation education for future generations.

To date, over 70 men and women have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since its founding in 1985.
