New STEM Preschool Program At Aerospace Center For Excellence

STEM Sprouts Weekly Classes Begin This Fall

The Aerospace Center for Excellence (ACE) in Lakeland, Florida, has started a new program for preschool students called STEM Sprouts.

STEM Sprouts is a 26-week series of classes that parents participate in with their child(ren). The weekly sessions are held from September to May on Monday mornings from 9:00-10:15 am and explore an aviation word associated with a unique STEM concept or theme based on each letter of the alphabet. For example, the first week dives into Aerodynamics, the second week Biology, and so on.

The classes are designed for children aged 3-5, with an enrollment limit of 15 students per class. Each class has a $10 fee per student with a 50% discount for Florida Air Museum members. Parents can elect to pay for the entire 26 weeks at a steeply discounted rate of $175. Admission to the Museum and the Destination Aviation Playground are included in the class fee.

Based at Lakeland Linder International Airport (KLAL), Sun ‘n Fun established the Aerospace Center for Excellence on the campus as a 14-building aerospace STEM education facility anchored by the Central Florida Aerospace Academy High School, Florida Air Museum, and a Polk County Public High School Career Academy. The ACE presents a wealth of STEM learning experiences for students at all grade levels such as summer camps, hands-on classes, the Aerospace Pavilion, Lakeland Aero Club (a flying club for high school students), the Piedmont Experience (a Boeing 727 classroom), the Skylab Innovation Center, and more.
