Gyroplane Enthusiast Shindig On For 2022

Bensen Days to be Held Once Again in Wauchula, Florida

The Bensen Days Event is on for 2022, an event jam packed with half a week of all things gyroplanes.

Each year, the Bensen team puts together a weekend of rotorcraft education, safety, and fun to promote the use and enjoyment of gyroplanes throughout the aviation industry. Named for the creator of the original Gyrocopter, Igor Bensen, the event aims to "once and for all eliminate the phrase 'Gyroplanes...the best kept secret in aviation!" While gyros are the primary focus of the weekend, other rotorcraft are welcome, thanks to the considerable degree of overlap between the two bodies of pilots. A variety of similar aircraft often make their appearance, too, with powered-parachutes, trikes and a variety of other Experimental Aircraft often out to play.

A variety of vendors, events, and camping accommodations are in plentiful supply, with a variety of gyroplanes on display and in the air with many a friendly owner eager to talk about the ups and downs of their favorite aircraft. Workshops, instruction, vendors, and the usual gaggle of aviation attendees will be there in full force, with an airborne egg-drop contest (competing to see who has the best egg bombing skills), a short landing contest, and more.

On Saturday, a series of awards, prizes, and honors will be issued for those who have advanced and promoted the hobby, before the crowds begin to disperse.

The event will be held in sunny Wauchula, Florida, beginning on Wednesday, March and running until Saturday - with a fair amount of stragglers flying around on Sunday, to be sure. Camping accommodations are available, even some with 30 amp hookups and holding tanks, but space is limited. General camping spots and food vendors are in plentiful supply.
