Another Major Model Aviation Event Felled by The Pandemic

The 2020 AMA Scale Nationals Both R/C And C/L Scale Has Been Cancelled

Not exactly on the scale of Oshkosh, it is nonetheless a heartbreaker to the model aviaion community to see yet another national event get swept aside bvy COVID-19 concerns.

Mike Barbee, president of the National Association of Scale Aeromodelers reports that board members and officers of NASA have unanimously voted and decided to cancel the 2020 Scale R/C & C/L Nationals.

This decision was made because of the risk of the Covid-19 virus and time and financial constraints brought on by the virus to competitors and spectators.

"We believe that this is both a logical and safe decision. We are however still planning on the NASA Scale Classic to be held September 10-13th at AMA. The qualification process for this event will NOT be in effect. Everyone is invited to come out and participate in this season end event. We will keep close watch on Government mandates and recommendations leading up to this time."

AMA and the National Free Flight Society already made the difficult decision to cancel May’s Indoor Nats because of COVID-19. In the meantime, AMA continues to plan and prepare for the Outdoor Nats in July and August, including discussions about extra sanitation. We’ll share any changes or announcements as soon as they are made. June 10 is the final “go,” or “no go” date.
