Gone West: Aviation Entrepreneur/Innovator, Ed Iacobucci

DayJet Program Was 'His Favorite Venture And High-Point Of His Career'

History favors the victors in the game of life... but a man who gave it his all and should have succeeded in one amazing aviation venture (if not for an economic downturn), deserves more than a passing aero-mention as his life has ended. Folks... a man who was the 'real-deal' has gone west... Ed Iacobucci.

Iacobucci, a well-known entrepreneur and strategist, and the genius behind the DayJet program, passed away this week after a 16 month battle with pancreatic cancer. A truly brilliant and affable man, this was a guy who could make a living in any sector of the economy, due to an innate brilliance that was proven, time and time again, but it was aviation that attracted him to one of his difficult and innovative ventures.

Just over a decade ago, Ed co-founded DayJet Corporation, "with the mission of bringing affordable, accessible Per-Seat, On-Demand jet travel to more people and more communities. He and his engineering team built a breakthrough computer system for solving highly-complex optimization problems for the world's first true on-demand air service. The young company forged a five-year strategic agreement with the FAA to pioneer the Next Generation of Air Transportation technologies. But after a successful launch in 2007, DayJet was forced to cease operations in 2008 when it was no longer able to secure its planned growth capital." It was an idea that should have worked (and was working)... at any time BUT one in which investment capital had all but dried up... but mark our words, the ideas and technology behind DayJet will someday be seen and utilized someday, somewhere... it simply that good an idea.

Iacobucci was born on September 26, 1953 in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Dr. Guillermo and Costantina Iacobucci. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lee (Iacobucci); his three children, Marianna (Eden), William (Iacobucci), and Michelle (Iacobucci); mother, Costantina (Iacobucci); brother, Billy (Iacobucci); and three grandchildren, Sophia, Haven and Estelle.

E-I-C Note: A truly amazing guy, he will not only be missed, but admired, for a long time to come. Frankly, he impressed the hell out of me... and to be honest, there aren't a whole lot of people I can say that about. What a loss.... -- Jim Campbell, ANN Ceo/Editor-In-Chief
