Lightspeed Debuts its Latest and Greatest Headset

New Zulu 4 ANR Aviation Headset Retailing for $1,099

Aviation headset icon Lightspeed Aviation has brought its new Zulu 4s to market at a US retail price of $1,099. The ANR headset features dual Bluetooth, clearer audio, and redesigned ear seals.

“True to the Lightspeed DNA, we went beyond incremental improvements to provide a superior solution,” stated Heider Lazzarini, CEO of Lightspeed Aviation. “The technological advancements in the Zulu 4 are first of their kind and have made it an unparalleled premium ANR headset that will raise the bar in the category and delight the aviation community.”

The Zulu 4 allows Bluetooth connections to two devices at once, eliminating the need to switch between phone and tablet or re-pair devices mid-flight. One of the more technical changes is AI-enhanced upstream audio, which reduces cockpit background noise in Bluetooth transmissions by up to 90%. This reportedly makes pilot voices sound cleaner to those on the other end of the transmission.

Comfort improvements come in the form of the new FrameFit ear seals, designed to accommodate eyeglasses and hats without breaking the headset’s noise seal. Lightspeed also extended the microphone boom by 10%, increased the length of the upper cable, and added a flexible power option for LEMO plug users. These tweaks were based on pilot feedback and target long-standing complaints about headset fit and flexibility.

Many features from the well-loved Zulu 3 return, including the magnesium and stainless steel frame, Kevlar-reinforced cables, and a seven-year limited warranty, still among the longest offered. Lightspeed’s proprietary ComPriority automatically reduces auxiliary audio during intercom or radio use, and Auto Shutoff helps conserve battery life when the headset is idle.

The Zulu 4 also integrates with the latest version of the Lightspeed app, which can record transmissions, store diagrams, and archive in-flight audio for training or debriefing purposes.

The headset is available in Dual GA, Helicopter, and LEMO/6-pin panel plug configurations. International availability is scheduled for fall 2025. While not a revolutionary redesign, the Zulu 4 appears to be a well-targeted upgrade aimed at modernizing the features pilots already liked…albeit at a price point that reflects its premium label.
